    Sustainable Business HK has produced a handbook for Hong Kong businesses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

    The SDGs were launched by the United Nations in New York in September 2015. Following on from the Millennium Development Goals, they provide a global framework for eradicating poverty and shifting the world economy onto a sustainable and resilient path.<\/p>\n

    The handbook considers how selected SDGs \u2013 such as lifelong learning, inclusive growth and addressing inequality \u2013 are relevant across a range of business sectors. It highlights measures companies are already taking to address those issues through their core business operations and value chains.<\/p>\n

    It then explores potential implications of the SDGs for four specific sectors in Hong Kong \u2013 manufacture, trading and logistics; retail; property and construction; and banking and finance. These sectors were chosen on the basis of their contribution to the local economy and their representation within the Caring Company Scheme.<\/p>\n

    Bernard Chan, Chairperson of HKCSS, said: \u201cHong Kong is a successful city by any standards. But we have much work to do to ensure a sustainable future economically, socially and environmentally.<\/p>\n

    \u201cThe business sector will play a critical role. I hope companies will use this handbook as a starting point to inspire their thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n
